Carters Building Supplies
Wanganui Branch
January 2003 to July 2011
I was the truck/delivery driver for Carters, based in Wanganui for eight and a half years. I did delivery of building products around the central and lower north island. When I first started with them I drove a 180HP Nissan with a tip deck. In 2005 I was left in charge of choosing my new truck. After talking to most of the brands, I decided to once again go with Nissan. This time a 330HP truck with Palfinger Crane, tipping deck and trailer connection. Carters ended up also buying a trailer from Emmetts in Wanganui for our bigger out of town runs.
Wanganui Steel Formers Ltd.
1995 to January 2003
I was the truck/delivery driver for Wanganui Steel Formers Ltd, based in Wanganui for almost eight years. I did delivery of Roofing Iron and building products around mainly the central and lower north island. But also got trips to Auckland, Tauranga, Napier and one trip to Waiheke Island. I was hired at first as a relief driver but the other guy didnt come back and it ended up a full time job. When I first started with them I drove a 120HP Isuzu truck and trailer with Hiab crane. Later this was up graded to a 180HP Nissan with PaIfinger crane. Wanganui Steel Formers is part of the Taranaki Steel Formers group with base's in Stratford, Wanganui, New Plymouth and Taumarunui (King Contry Long-Run). I also got to drive the Stratfords (Nissan) and Taumarunui's (Toyota) trucks from time to time. I could also operate all the machines that were used to produce the roofing iron and flashings.
New Zealand Railways
(NZR)
1994 to 1995
I was given a 10 week training course with New Zealand Railways, driving trucks, forklifts and container crane. This included local deliverys and pick ups along with loading rail wagons and containers. After the course finished I was hired back on a relief basis (almost every week) covering other staff on leave until the Wanganui Steel Formers job came up.
