Feilding & District Steam Rail Society Inc.
Feilding and District Steam Rail Society was formed with the intention of rebuilding a New Zealand Steam Locomotive.
February 1997 saw New Zealand Railway and Locomotive Society's 1927 Wab moved from Ferrymead to Feilding. Over the last few years, steam loco's: F 163, X 442 and Diesels: Da 1401, Dsa 227, Tr 13, Tr 678 and Tr 701 have become residents at Feilding also. |
The group runs several main line excursions throughout the year using their restored locos and carriages, along with hiring KiwiRail locos and carriage at times also. Most the trips are around the lower North Island but they do get further a field occasionally. In the past they have done a south island trip and been across to Gisborne.
I was a member a member of this group when I first got signed off for firing with KiwiRail. It was part of the deal for me to finish off my steam ticket with my work, when they offered their locos for my use. I have now fired the Wab on several occasions on the mainline line as part of my work with KiwiRail. But I have now let the membership slide, as I haven't been doing many if any steam trips lately.
